Keto Travel Tips

Adventure is in all of us. We are meant to explore.
"Exploration is really the essence of human spirit." -Frank Borman
We want to help you build memories full of fun and laughter, all day energy, and free of hangry-ness. Here are our favorite tips to keep your travels keto friendly!
The Beach
The beach is one of my favorite place to visit. The sounds of the ocean waves, the smell of the salty sea, and the warmth of the sun-soaked sand is completely nostalgic. Here are our 5 tips for a trip to the beach.
Tip #1: Take Kegenix PRIME first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach for optimal absorption.
This will give you energy, focus, and curb your appetite so you can build a monster sand castle!
Tip #2: Bring your own food.
Keto Meal, our perfectly formulated meal replacement for those on the keto diet comes in pouches, so all you need to bring is a water bottle, and you are all set! We also love to pack raw seeds and nuts, hard salami, and berries.
Tip #3: If you plan on doing a lot of physical activity, bring some carbs.
Surfing, beach volleyball, or a beach workout are a ton of fun but are exhausting. Bring clean carbs (such as plantain chips and sweet potatoes) along to snack on, especially if you plan on having multiple days in a row of high levels of activity.
Tip #4: Avoid grains to avoid bloating.
This can be hard when all the nearby concession stands sell churros and hot dogs, but your experience will be so much better when you feel your most confident.
Tip #5: If you are unable to bring your own food, here are a couple keto hacks.
- Buy a hamburger, and remove the bun, or request it be wrapped in lettuce.
- Buy a hotdog, and request no bun. Then load it up with toppings, especially sauerkraut (which is a great fermented probotic).
- If soda is what you crave, our favorite combination is 1 scoop Kegenix PRIME, mixed with 1 can La Croix. Be creative with the combos!
The City
As a girl who has always lived in the suburbs, going to the big city is exciting! The energy is high, everyone looks like they are in a hurry (and important), and the FOOD! I live for all the different types of food in the city. So my beach and city vacations tend to look very different. I am less worried about bloating, and more worried about having enough energy to go to all the places I want to eat.
Tip #1: Use Kegenix PRIME when you need to get back into ketosis.
I like to save my carbs for the late afternoon or evening, to ensure I have steady energy and focus throughout the day. I take Kegenix PRIME the morning after a carb-heavy meal that kicks me out of ketosis to help me with energy and focus that day.
Tip #2: Still try to avoid grains.
As a rule of thumb, I try to avoid grains 100%, to avoid bloating, blood sugar spikes, increased cravings for carbs, and to avoid feeling "hangry". Overall, I just feel better without them.
Tip #3: Limit inflammatory foods as much as possible.
You may be walking all day long, so it's important to keep inflammation low so you don't get achy joints. Avoiding inflammatory foods like highly processed foods and industrial seed oils (like vegetable oils) is a great way to help you feel your best.
Tip #4: Do your research.
Do the work, and make your meals count! If you are going to eat foods you wouldn't eat on a daily basis, make sure they are worth your time and money. Check sites like Yelp, and read the reviews.
Tip #5: If you'd like to stay fully keto, here are some good meal options.
- Fast Food- Lettuce wrapped hamburger, with cheese and bacon.
- Italian- Spaghetti and meatballs, over veggies instead of pasta. California pizza kitchen now offers pizza on a cauliflower crust!
- Mexican- Order meat and veggies, just avoid the beans and rice, and always add extra guac!
- Peruvian- Their specialty is their rotisserie chicken! It's so delicious. Get with a side of ceviche, and you are all set.
- Vietnamese- My favorite dish is a big bowl of pho, especially on a colder day. To make it keto, omit the rice noodles completely, and ask for extra meat, or extra bean sprouts. There are some restaurants that will add extra veggies to your pho if requested as well. And avoid using too much hoisin sauce, as it very sugary.
- Greek- A giant Greek salad is perfect for keto-followers! It has feta cheese, olives, meat (such as lamb), cucumbers, red onion, and an oil-based dressing. This is one of my favorite types of restaurant for lunch, when I want to feel light, and now bogged down.
The Mountains
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.” - John Muir
I love the beach and the city, but the mountains are where I belong. Nothing compares to the stars at night and the crisp mornings. I also LOVE cooking in the mountains. Everything tastes better over a fire!
Tip #1: Pack Keto Meal on your hikes so you can pack light.
If you are camping, I'm sure you plan on hiking. And if you've ever had to carry a heavy pack, you know how important it is to pack light, halfway into your strenuous hike. That's why we recommend packing Keto Meal On-The-Go Pouches. They contain the perfect macros for keto-dieters, as well as exogenous ketones, giving you energy, focus, and suppressing your appetite so you can go longer, faster.
Tip #2: Make keto friendly campfire meals.
One of my favorite memories is cooking over the campfire. Sometimes we would make foil dinners, which was ground beef, and veggies, wrapped in tin foil, and placed in the coals of the fire. I also LOVE cooking in my dutch oven. You can regulate the temperature by placing a certain amount of coals on the lid. Any keto meal you make in a slow cooker, will most likely transfer over to the dutch oven if you cook it low and slow.
Tip #3: Kegenix PRIME for recovery after a hard hike.
A benefit of taking exogenous ketones is their ability to help you recover after strenuous activities. There is an anti-inflammatory effect that can allow you to get back on the hiking trail the next day.
Tip #4: Skip the morning pancakes. Instead, have a big omelet.
Avoid the gut bomb of a carb-heavy breakfast, that will make you want to nap in your tent all day. Instead, opt for a protein and fat heavy breakfast. That might be eggs, with a side of avocado, or a fatty coffee. Whatever works for you.
Tip #5: Favorite campfire keto desserts.
This may sound simple, but berries and cream is my favorite simple dessert. Just slice some strawberries, and add them to a cup with some blueberries, and pour heavy cream over the top. You can even add some dark chocolate chips. My favorite is by Lily's, which is sweetened with stevia.
And while you check out Lily's on Amazon, did you know Kegenix is Prime? Now you can get your Kegenix supplements with FREE TWO DAY SHIPPING for all Amazon Prime Members. Get everything you need before your next vacation.
